“Essential Anatomy 5 is a valuable support for those studying subjects that have to do with health, and may be useful in the future in working life. An app definitely not to be missed.” iPhonari

“It is difficult to imagine a more effective tool for visualising and learning of the human body than this program.” iLand

“This series of apps are the best in terms of visuals, detail and functional quizzes. I also have visible anatomy atlas 2 and much prefer the Stanford based apps. Amazing for medical students!” Todd Miller (iTunes Review)

“The 3D anatomy engine and impressive graphics bring a new clarity to anatomy education with impressive accuracy.” iMedical Apps

“The app is really intuitive and is a blast on the iPad. It also provides a lot of opportunities to help teach others about human anatomy.” The iPhone App Review

“Whether as a reference for physicians or amateurs: 3D4Medicals new iPad app Essential Anatomy is the most impressive three-dimensional representation of the human body structure in 3D” IDG (Norwegian)

“I have tried Essential Anatomy on an iPad Mini and an iPad third generation and in both cases it was possible to interact with the anatomical structure with zero delay times. The fading or hiding of the muscles or other structures occurs instantaneously. Essential Anatomy is the ideal application to complement and integrate your classic anatomy atlas, thanks to an excellent and powerful 3D visualisation.” MobiMed (Italian)

“Essential Anatomy is an app every doctor, physiotherapist, OT, nurse and medical student should own. I'm also certain it's an app that will soon be required material at medical schools. Make no mistake about it - Essential Anatomy by 3D4Medical is the future of touch-based anatomy learning.” Tuaw

Quality 3D & Stunning Graphics

Essential Anatomy 5 was designed to ensure a seamless and fluid 3D experience and excels where other apps fail to deliver. Our 3D graphics engine was custom built to maximize graphics quality and enable as much content as possible on screen.

To compliment our graphics engine, new generation anatomical models were designed and built to allow for even more detail and exceptional performance. You can learn more about the process here.

Next Generation 3D Models

In order to further develop the Essential Anatomy platform we needed to create a new generation of 3D models. Our current models were developed primarily for rendering. In other words they were originally created to allow for high quality images to be rendered from them. However our real time 3D Display engine required a different type of model to maximize its capabilities.

So we set about creating, from the ground up, a wholly new set of anatomical models. These new generation models were designed solely for use in our 3D Display engine as well as being built to comply with a series of new features and functionalities that are currently in development. Want an insight into how we develop the models? Check out our Creation Process page.

These custom built, new generation models, contain 23% more structures and yet offer an average 20% increase in performance. This means we can greatly increase the level of anatomical detail in the app. Importantly; this increased performance also enables Essential Anatomy to function on less high performance devices, allowing us to develop for Android and Windows 8 platforms.

Acknowledgments:

We would like to acknowledge the R&D support given to us by the Irish Government through Enterprise Ireland. We would also like to acknowledge the collaborative efforts of Stanford University, School of Anatomy in further enhancing the medical and anatomical accuracy of our new models.

Essential Anatomy vs. our Pro Series Apps

Essential Anatomy was developed to provide an overview of essential, or general, anatomy. While it does include multiple systems and is more detailed than any other 3D engine on the market, it does not go into the level of detail contained in our Pro Series apps.

Our Pro Series Apps focus on the intricacies of each system and provide a level of detail that would be difficult to capture in a general anatomy app. These apps not only contain additional labeling of structures, but also media to explore the specialties of each system. For example, Skeletal System Pro contains animations showing movements for each articulation, bone structure mapping, etc. Brain & Nervous System Pro details Brodmann areas, provides tools for brain slicing and includes animations detailing important brain functions and disease states.
